Ask yourself:
- Why am I doing this?
- What do I want to personally accomplish?
- What do I want for the team?
- What do I want for the individual players?
- How important is winning to me?
- What are my strengths?
- What are my weaknesses?
- What support do I have?
- How will my commitment to coaching impact other aspects of my life?
- Can I afford to do this?
Only by taking this process seriously can we hope to find true success and indeed, happiness in our coaching role. |

1. Nobody ever became a ball player by walking after a ball.

Background
In Canada, the level of participation in sports may be a cause for concern. The demographics of the participation in many sports are severely skewed towards the 5-10 year old players and participation begins to drop off severely as children reach their middle teenage years. As coaches, one of our goals should be the encouragement of life-long participation in sports, especially as there is a trend for our children to become more sedimentary and overweight. |
