Ancaster Novice Blizzard Wins Silver in Brantford

Ancaster took home the silver and were 3 outs away from the Gold in Brantford last weekend.

In the Championship game they held a 1 - 0 lead going into the 7th, when the Brantford Bobcats scored 4 runs and went on to win 4 - 1.

In the semifinals Ancaster defeated London Lightning 10 - 9 in extra innings in an exciting game that saw both teams score 4 runs in the first tie-breaker inning.

There is a very good chance that these 3 teams will be fighting for medals at the Provincials later in the year

Thanks to Todd Bannister and the host committee at Brantford for organizing another excellent tourney

Midget 1 Wins Silver in Brantford
Written by Rick Ellis
Tuesday, 13 May 2008

Ancaster Midget 1 had a successful weekend (May 9-11) in Brantford and managed to walk away with the silver medal in a rain shortened championship game. Blizzards first game was against the Brantford Bobcat Bantams. A tough game right down to the wire. Blizzard down 2-1 in the closing minutes when an untimely error on third out opened the door for a 3 run shot by Brantford. Final 5-1 for Brantford. Blizzard started off on Saturday with a seventh inning rally to finish 4-2 against the eventual gold medalist Mississauga North Tigers. They then finished the day with a 11-7 win over Six Nations.

Finishing first in their pool, they faced  Ancaster in the quarter final. A great game by both teams with Blizzard 1 advancing in a 5-4 game. Another tough battle in the semi finals saw Blizzard defeat Princeton again 5-4. The final game saw Blizzard matched again with Mississauga Tigers. Great pitching and solid timely hitting by the Tigers. Unable to capitalize on a couple of opportunities Ancaster trailed 5-1 when the rain hit during the fifth inning. Game called due to rain after 5 complete with Tigers Gold and Blizzard silver. Good job by Todd, Jerry and the rest in Brantford for another well run tournament.
